Who We Are

Summit Oil & Shipping Co. Ltd. (SOSCL) was incorporated on 2 June, 1998 as a private limited company and was converted to a public limited company in June, 2010.

The present authorised and paid up capital of the Company is Tk.2.00 billion and Tk.500.00 million respectively. The registered office of the Company is situated at the Summit Centre, 18 Karwan Bazar C/A, Dhaka – 1215, Bangladesh.

Shareholding

99.88% shares of the Company is being held by Summit Holdings Ltd. and the balance 0.12% equally by 12 individual shareholders.

Credit Rating

Credit rating of the Company being carried out by CRISL and rate of Summit Oil & Shipping Co. Ltd. is A+ in long term; ST 2 in short term.

Thus SOSCL has been able to achieve a successful track-record as Fuel Importer and Supplier to the power plants as the first such entity in the private sector of Bangladesh.

Muhammed Aziz Khan
Director

Muhammed Aziz Khan, PBM is the founder and Chairman of Summit Power International Limited and Summit Holdings Ltd. Summit Group is the largest infrastructure conglomerate in Bangladesh and employs over 6,000 people. The Group has investments in the energy sector, ports, logistics, and information technology.

Under the leadership of Muhammed Aziz Khan, Summit set up the first Independent Power Plant in Bangladesh in 1998, Khulna Power Company Limited (KPCL). Summit and associated companies own and operate a total of 20 power plants in operation with a total capacity of 3,000 megawatts (MW). Further it owns and operates a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and LNG import terminal with a capacity of 500 mmcf/d in Moheskhali, Cox’s Bazar. Beyond the energy sector, Summit is also actively involved in the development of vital infrastructure underpinning Bangladesh’s economic development. Summit has set up Bangladesh’s first private off-dock port facility, Summit Alliance Ports Limited which handles about 25% of Bangladesh’s export volume and about 7% of the country’s import volume. Summit Communications Limited is the first company to lay a Bangladesh-wide fibre-optic transmission network. Summit Communication Limited’s fibre optic cables cover the entirety of Bangladesh, with over 53,000 kilometres of laid fibre. The company also connects Bangladesh to India through terrestrial fibre optics and SEA-ME-WE-4 and SEA-ME-WE5 to Singapore and Europe. The company is in the process of laying its own submarine cable between Bangladesh and Singapore. 

Summit Power Limited (SPL), Summit Alliance Ports Limited (SAPL) and Khulna Power Company Ltd (KPCL) are subsidiaries of Summit Group and are currently listed in the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges.

In 2016, Summit entered into a partnership with IFC of the World Bank Group and co-investors and formed Summit Power International Limited, with its registered head office in Singapore. Besides, Summit also entered into an agreement with General Electric of USA (GE) for development of gas-to-power projects in the South Asian Region. An MOU was also signed with Wärtsilä of Finland, for cooperation in the Bangladesh, Indonesian market and South Asia. Presently JERA, GE, Mitsubishi and Taiyo Insurance are equity holders of Summit.

Besides being an accomplished entrepreneur, Muhammed Aziz Khan is imbued with a strong sense of duty to give back to society. His lifelong support towards the disadvantaged have culminated in the founding of the Anjuman & Aziz Charitable Trust (AACT), which has sponsored many projects in Bangladesh for underprivileged members of society. This includes sponsorship for the Prothom Alo Trust, and funding for the Society for Education and Inclusion for the Disabled (SEID) to operate special needs schools, and icddrb. Mr. Aziz Khan and the AACT have joined UNICEF’s International Council.

In 2023, Muhammed Aziz Khan was awarded the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM) Medal and COVID-19 Resilience Medal by the government of Singapore for his contributions to the livelihood of migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, the honourable President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam handed him the ProBono Gold Award for supporting the right to justice of migrant workers and maids who cannot afford to get legal services.

Muhammed Aziz Khan was born in 1955. He has an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. Mr. Khan is the Chairman of Siraj Khaleda Trust, Anjuman & Aziz Charitable Trust (AACT), Member of the Board of Trustees of Asian University of Women (AUW) and the Founding President of the Prothom Alo Trust, where he continues to serve as a Trustee Member. He was also the founding President of Bangladesh Scouts Foundation, former President of Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC), and Bangladesh Energy Companies’ Association (BECA).

Muhammed Aziz Khan is the Honorary Consul General of Finland to Bangladesh. He is married to Anjuman Aziz Khan and is the father to three daughters, Ayesha, Adeeba and Azeeza.

Jafer Ummeed Khan
Chairman

Jafer Ummeed Khan is our Chairman. After completing his studies in the United Kingdom, he joined Summit Group in 1987. He spearheaded the development and expansion of Summit Group, particularly of Summit Industrial & Mercantile Corporation (Pvt.) Limited (subsequently renamed as Summit Corporation Limited) and later of Summit Power Limited. He is also a Non-Executive Director in several of our Group’s subsidiaries, including Summit Meghnaghat Power Company Limited, Summit Bibiyana Power Company Limited and Summit Barisal Power Limited, Summit Gazipur II Power Limited and Ace Alliance Power Limited. Because of his contribution in the Power Sector, Mr. Jafer Ummeed Khan was also unanimously elected as the Vice-President of Bangladesh Energy Companies Association. He is looking to add LNG trading to the portfolio of SOSCL.

M. Hafizur Rahman

Mohammad Hafizur Rahman P. Eng a Professional Registered Mechanical Engineer, passed B.Sc. Engineering from CUET in the year 1976 and secured the First Class first position. He has completed the MBA in Marketing from Dhaka University and Post Graduation Diploma in Personnel Management. He Passed SSC from Motijheel Government High School and HSC from Dhaka College Dhaka.
He participated in long term training programs on Petroleum refining operation and safety in PERTAMINA, Indonesia and in Canadian Petroleum Institute in addition to much local training.
His professional carrier started with teaching as Lecturer of ME department CUET; served Eastern Refinery Ltd. for a long tenure of 22 years. He served two years as CEO of the Government LPG Company and served four years as Managing Director of HP Chemicals Ltd. Serving Summit group for the last 15 years and presently holding the post of Managing Director of Summit Oil and Shipping Company Ltd.
He is the Academic Council Member of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering DUET and of the Faculty of Energy Science and Engineering KUET. He was a member of the national Occupational Health and Safety Policy Formulation Working Team formed by the Ministry of Labor of GOB. He has a publication on management of Occupational Safety Health and Environment.

Latif Khan
Director

Latif Khan was born 1958 in Dhaka. He pursued BA in Public Administration at Dhaka University, and subsequently left for higher studies to the U.S. in 1981. There, he worked for over 15 years in the financial sector. He was a stockbroker and a financial analyst at Prudential Insurance of America where he received numerous sales achievement awards. He also worked as a Financial Officer at Wells Fargo Bank in California. He returned to Bangladesh in 1997 and thereof joined Summit Group as the Managing Director of Summit Shipping Limited. He has been elected Vice Chairman of Summit Power Limited since 2009 and also elected President of Bangladesh Independent Power Producers’ Association since 2015. Mr. Khan has established himself as a sound and dynamic businessman of the country.

Ayesha Aziz Khan
Director

Ayesha Aziz Khan has extensive experience in the power sector of the country, specifically in the financial management of power generation companies. In her career, she has led in the financial management of multiple power projects. Currently, she is the Managing Director & CEO of Summit Power International. She was a Director of Finance Management of Summit Power Limited from 2003 to 2005, a Director of Summit Prakasa Asia Pte Ltd from 2004 to 2017, a Director of Summit Infrastructures Pte Ltd from 2005 to 2017, and a Finance Director of Summit Power Limited from 2007 to 2011. From 2011 to 2016, she was also the Group Finance Director of Summit Corporation Limited Ms Khan is currently also a non-executive director in several companies of Summit Group.

She is also a member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Singapore International Chamber of Commerce.

Ms Khan graduated with a Bachelor in Economics and Business from the University College of London in 2003 and Masters in Business Administration from the Columbia University in 2007.

Dr Adeeba Aziz Khan, Barrister-at-Law
Director

Dr Adeeba Aziz Khan is our Director. She is a Barrister-at-Law and also an Advocate of the Dhaka Bar. She completed her LLB from the London School of Economic and Political Science and received her Masters and PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies. She is currently a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge and an affiliated scholar of the Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge.

She has previously practiced law at Dr. Kamal Hossain & Associates, Bangladesh and at Drew & Napier LLC, Singapore.

Azharul Hoque, FCA

Azharul Hoque, is working as Director of various companies under Summit Group including the parent company Summit Corporation Limited. Mr. Hoque started his service carrier in the Summit Group from 1985.

Mr. Hoque, is a Chartered Accountant, a Fellow member of ICAB. He also earned M.Com degree in Business Management with honours from University of Dhaka.

During his long thirty two years of service, he worked in various capacities in different companies of the group and shouldered lot of responsibility in the area of Accounts, Finance, Taxation and Corporate & Legal affairs.

Faisal Karim Khan
Director

Faisal Khan is our Director. He is also the Director of Summit Power International and Managing Director of Summit Corporation. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of all companies under Summit Group. Mr. Khan was instrumental in the development of over 2,000 MW power plants and LNG FSRU projects in the past decade.

Faisal Khan is currently serving as the President of Bangladesh Independent Power Producers’ Association (BIPPA). Previously, Mr. Khan served as the Chairman of Bangladesh’s National Standing Committee for National Energy Strategy for Private Sector Development and also as the Co-Convener of National Standing Committee for Energy & Power Sector at Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industries (DCCI). Mr. Khan was also elected as a Director of Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and as a Member of the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Company (BAPLC).

Faisal Khan holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from University College London (UCL), UK and a Master of Business Administration Degree from London Business School (LBS), UK.

Salman Khan
Director

Salman Khan is the Director, Operations of the largest private sector importer of fuel in Bangladesh. Under his leadership, Summit Oil and Shipping Company Ltd (SOSCL) has imported and supplied approximately 1.8 million metric tons of HFO fuel since 2013. He oversees fleet of thirty vessels of shallow and coastal oil tankers on a regular basis. With a decade of experience, Mr Khan has been closely involved in developing the underpinning structures that ensures efficient supply chain and timely fuel shipments and supply to the clientele. He graduated from Trent University in Canada.

Anjuman Aziz Khan
Director

Anjuman Aziz Khan, wife of Mr. Muhammed Aziz Khan has over two decades of business experience in Summit. Ms. Khan is a member of Siraj Khaleda Trust that developed 200 bed capacity medical services on charitable basis in Dhaka Cantonment. She enthusiastically takes part and contributes to social activities such as “Assistance of Blind Children” and women’s entrepreneurship development.

Azeeza Aziz Khan
Director

Ms Azeeza Aziz Khan is a qualified Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business from University College London. Upon graduation Ms Khan worked briefly in private equity and wealth management at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch before moving back to Bangladesh to join Summit group as a Director.

Ms Khan spent her initial years gaining a deeper understanding about Summit’s core business, with a strong focus on finance and internal audit controls, in line with her educational background. In order to better serve as a director of Summit Group, she has taken on and completed project finance training at IDCOL and Leadership, Innovation and Strategy (LIS) program from General Electric in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Since 2011, she has also been a key contributor to the establishment of Summit’s CSR charter and driver of the group’s CSR activities and currently sits on the distinguished board of SEID Trust, non-government voluntary development organization working for social inclusion and promoting rights of underprivileged children with disabilities including intellectual and multiple disabilities as well as autism since 2003.

She currently works with the audit committee and CSR committee at Summit which ensures that the groups adherence to corporate governance and best practices. Her long term goal at Summit is to ensure that as an organisation it has a strategic road map for the near, medium and long term and to spearhead it’s business development.

Md. Farid Khan
Director

Md. Farid Khan is our Director. He is a business graduate from Dhaka University and involved in business since 1980. He started his business career with trading in plastic compound, fertilizer and other commodities. He was an integral part of the team that pioneered export of molasses and fertilizer from Bangladesh. He was solely instrumental in setting up Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) project and Tanks Terminal in Mongla. Mr. Khan was the Vice Chairman of Summit Power Limited during 2007 to 2009 and shifted his focus into attaining hi-technology prospects that would digitalize Bangladesh and swift global connectivity. He took responsibility of Summit Communications Limited as its Vice Chairman to strengthen Summit’s role as a catalyst for the introduction of new and pioneering businesses in Bangladesh. Under his guidance, Summit Communications spearheaded into that market by constructing an innovative and efficient optical fiber network architecture nationally.

Syed Fazlul Haque, FCA
Director

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Mr. Syed Fazlul Haque, started his career as partner of A Qasem & Co, Chartered Accountants in 1971. In 1975, he moved to an executive career by joining Biman, Bangladesh Airlines, as its Controller of Accounts and since then his long, varied career included increasingly higher positions in different local and multinational organizations. Mr. Haque served in Padma Oil Co Ltd for 12 years and left the Company as its CEO in 1993 to join Glaxo Bangladesh (subsequently renamed as GlaxoSmithKline Bangladesh) as Finance Director. In Glaxo, he was promoted as Managing Director of the Company in 1997 and continued in the position until his retirement in 2002. In 2005 Mr. Haque joined Summit Alliance Port Limited. During the tenure of his long career, Mr. Syed Fazlul Haque served as a Committee member of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Foreign Chamber of Commerce & Industries and Bangladesh Employers Federation. At present, besides his assignment as a Director of Summit Alliance port Ltd, Mr. Haque is also a Board member of several companies under Summit Group.

REAR ADMIRAL RIAZUDDIN AHMED, OSP, BSP,NDU, AFWC, PSC (RETD)

Rear Admiral Riazuddin Ahmed, OSP, BSP,ndu, afwc, psc(retd) was an officer of Bangladesh Navy for 38 years. During his long Naval career he served in different ships/establishments of Bangladesh Navy, Armed Forces Division (AFD) and Directorate General of Defense Purchase (DGDP) in various capacities including Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Material) at Naval Headquarters. Rear Admiral Riazuddin served as Managing Director of Khulna Shipyard Ltd (KSY) on deputation for 4 (four) years when the first batch (5 Patrol Craft) of War-ship building was successfully completed. He also served as Chairman of both Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) and Mongla Port Authority (MPA) on deputation for about 5 (five) years while he was a member of International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH). Rear Admiral Riazuddin is a graduate of BSc Engineering (Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering) from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET). He attended number of civil & military courses at home and abroad. Rear Admiral Riazuddin Ahmed retired from Bangladesh Navy on December, 2016. He is a member of Kurmitola Golf Club, Chattogram Boat Club and Khulna Club.

Md Quamruzzaman

Advisor, Summit Group

Prior to joining Summit Group as Advisor, Md Quamruzzaman served in Petrobangla (Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation) for 40 years. During his long and distinguished tenure, he served as the Managing Director in several companies of Petrobangla including Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Co Ltd (RPGCL), Barapukuria Coal Mines Co Ltd (BCMCL) and Pashchimanchal Gas Co Ltd (PGCL). Under his leadership, two FSRUs were successfully commissioned in Moheskhali, Cox’s Bazar and began importing LNG for the first time in Bangladesh. In 2013, he was appointed as the Director, Petrobangla and worked with International oil companies for oil and gas explorations in both onshore and offshore of Bangladesh. He also worked in Gas Transmission Co Ltd (GTCL) from the inception of the company till 2000 and was directly involved in the development of major national gas transmission pipelines. Earlier, he worked in Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Ltd (JGTDSL) for a decade at the beginning of his career.

Mr Quamruzzaman is a Mechanical Engineer from BUET and had completed another undergraduation in Gas Engineering from the University of Salford, UK. Later, he completed MSc in technology management from University of Stirling, UK. He is a member of Energy Institute, UK.
